SIGMAA on RUME Publication Committee Report, January 17, 2003 |

Committee Members: Anne Brown, Marilyn Carlson (Co-chair), Barbara Edwards, Cathy Kessel, Chris Rasmussen (Co-chair), Annie Selden, Rina Zazkis. The members of the Publication Committee have discussed possible outlets for disseminating knowledge generated from research in undergraduate mathematics education to the mathematical community and in communicating research to practice. We have agreed to make explicit efforts to encourage the RUME community to submit to the Monthly and the College Mathematics Journal. These outlets were also contrasted with an MAA Notes Volume. It was decided that an MAA Notes Volume has the potential to contribute a coherent collection of focused papers that disseminate the products of our research. Although some concerns were raised as to whether this initiative would attract a sufficient number of appropriate submissions to publish a high quality volume, others voiced their belief that it is important to devote time and resources to communicate the body of RUME knowledge to a broader audience of practitioners. Marilyn Carlson and Chris Rasmussen volunteered to write the initial draft of a prospectus to submit to the MAA Notes Committee and to serve as co-editors for this potential publication. Others on the Publication Committee were also invited to serve in this role. All declined. Rina motioned that Marilyn and Chris serve as co-editors of this potential publication and all agreed. All other Publication Committee members (Anne Brown, Barbara Edwards, Cathy Kessel, Annie Selden, and Rina Zaskis) agreed to serve on the Editorial Panel for this potential publication.
